The HiveGate 3-Way Entrance Reducer is a smarter front-door upgrade for your hive, designed to give beekeepers better control over entrance size, ventilation, and temporary closure.

Unlike a basic wooden entrance reducer, HiveGate offers three practical modes in a single easy-to-use design. Whether you are managing robbing pressure, preparing colonies for cooler weather, improving ventilation, or temporarily closing a hive for transport, HiveGate gives you flexible control without completely sacrificing airflow.

Created by Ray Hewitt of Honey Top Bees, a University of Florida IFAS Certified Master Beekeeper, the HiveGate was designed from real-world experience in the bee yard — not from a desk.

🐝 Three Practical Modes

1. Vent/Transport Mode – Close off the entrance while still allowing airflow through the vented openings.

Great for:

• Moving or transporting hives
• Temporarily closing a colony
• Keeping bees contained while maintaining ventilation

2. Normal Summer Vented Mode

A good everyday setting that provides bees with a smaller, more defensible entrance while still allowing additional airflow.

Great for:

• General hive management
• Robbing pressure
• Smaller or recovering colonies
• Better front entrance control

3. Reduced Vented Mode

A tighter entrance with less ventilation is useful when the colony needs a smaller opening.

Great for:

• Cooler weather
• Winter months
• Increased colony defense
• Reducing the front entrance while still allowing some air exchange

⚙️ Adjustable Sliding Gate

The HiveGate entrance opening is adjusted with a simple sliding gate, allowing you to set different entrance sizes based on colony strength, season, weather, or robbing pressure.

If needed, HiveGate can also be secured to the wooden hive body using push pins through the provided holes.

🎨 Assorted Colors for Hive Recognition

HiveGate comes in assorted color combinations to help make hive entrances more visually distinct.

Different color combinations may help:

• Reduce bee drift
• Increase hive recognition
• Give returning bees a clearer visual marker
• Help queens returning from mating flights recognize the correct hive entrance
• Make multiple hives easier to distinguish in the bee yard

Color alone will not eliminate drifting, but a more distinct entrance may help reduce confusion when multiple full-size hives are placed close together.

• Standard 8-frame Langstroth hives
• Standard 10-frame Langstroth hives
• Many compatible Flow-style hive setups

HiveGate is not designed for nuc boxes, mating nucs, or non-standard hive entrances.
